Crowns and veneers

Crowns and veneers fall into the category of definitive dental treatment which also includes bridges and dental implants. These restorations are considered a phase 2 treatment and are best placed in the mouths of patients that have no current and active decay or periodontal disease.

Crowns are whole tooth restorations that completely cover damaged teeth and help prevent them from breaking down any further. Veneers are restorations that usually only cover the front surface of front teeth with the purpose of enhancing the look of those teeth.

Bridges and implants have the function of replacing missing teeth. These options are fixed, meaning they cannot be removed from the mouth like a full or partial denture.

Because Dr. Melanie Johnson is a certified anterior and posterior Bioclear provider she is able to offer her patients the choice of Bioclear restorations instead of crowns or veneers. With their options explained to them, most patients are choosing to have their teeth restored with a Bioclear restoration because it is a more conservative (less tooth structure removed) restoration than a crown while still being a strong and long-term option. As well, because the restoration is done in one appointment the Bioclear treatment option is more cost effective than a crown.
